New Delhi. Market analysis firm Canalys said in a report that the global smartphone market finally reached the pre-Covid level in 2021 last year, growing 7 percent to 1.35 billion units. This came despite supply chain constraints persisting as we entered 2022, the report said. Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo are among the top 5 brands in the world, with Samsung topping the market with a 20 percent share. The total amount of units shipped back in 2019 before COVID-19 stood at 1.37 billion, compared to 1.35 billion shipments in 2021. In 2020, shipments fell to 1.26 billion units.

Samsung shipped 274.5 million units, 19 million more than the company's 2020 shipments, showing a growth of 7 percent. Apple came second with 17 percent market share with 230.1 million units shipped in 2021. This is a growth of 22.9 million units from the company's 207.2 million shipments in 2020. This showed an 11 percent growth for Apple in the global smartphone market.
After Samsung and Apple, Chinese company Xiaomi came at number three with a market share of 14 percent with 191.2 million shipments in 2021. After that Oppo got 11 percent stake and Vivo got 10 percent stake. According to a Canalys report, Oppo's 145.1 million shipments included OnePlus smartphones, while Vivo shipped 129.9 million units in 2021.
